FRANKFURT/ANKARA. Top cherry producer, Turkey, was able to start the export season about two weeks earlier this year. Due to good production prospects and stable demand, market participants are hoping for record exports.

US producers, on the other hand, recorded an estimated 320,000 mt drop in production this year, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service.

Hungary is not quite in the top 10 but also plays a major role within the EU as the most important supplier of canned cherries. The 2018 sour cherry crop alone is said to have yielded 80,000 mt, with the production of sweet cherries averaging 10,000 mt per year.
