Chestnuts: early start to the harvest in Turkey

AYDIN. Favourable weather conditions this year ensured that Turkish chestnut farmers were able to start harvesting earlier than usual. The yields are also said to be satisfactory.

Chestnuts are grown in many parts of the world, including Central Europe, North America and East Asia. The Mediterranean region offers particularly good growing conditions, which also allow the locals to generate good demand. Italy, Turkey, Portugal and Spain account for a large proportion of global chestnut production and, alongside China, are among the most important export countries.
