NEW DELHI/OTTAWA. In India, importers are busy replenishing stocks ahead of the festive season. Australia is set to more than double its chickpea production and North America is also expecting large crops.

Now that the storage restriction on chickpeas has been lifted, Indian importers are busy bringing in enough chickpeas into India to meet the rising demand ahead of the festive season. In May, the import duty on desi chickpeas was reduced by 66%, which made it much easier for market players to import in June.
