NEW DELHI/OTTAWA. Buyers prefer to wait for the first crop reports to be issued in Canada before securing contracts for chickpeas. Issue is that the area sown can only be guessed. Prices have risen again in India.

Traders sell at high rates

In India, the decision to overturn the unnecessary stock limits for chickpeas is still having an impact. Prices are on the rise with reduced arrivals adding fuel to fire in the state of Maharashtra. As some volumes have been sold for export in Madhya Pradesh, local supplies are also limited here. Although production has reached 3-3.1 million mt, international prices are high.
