Chickpeas: Canadian suppliers hesitate

NEW DELHI/OTTAWA. In India, good chickpea production and low demand are preventing the price increases hoped for by traders. In Canada, meanwhile, sellers are hesitant to concretise their offers.

Larger stocks in India

The total production of chickpeas in India this year is expected to be 3.1 million mt, the same level as last year. The cultivation of kabuli chana recorded a slight increase of 5%. While some crops in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh were affected by the temperature fluctuations in January and February, production in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra was normal.
