Chickpeas: possible crop damage supports prices

NEW DELHI/OTTAWA. Demand on the Indian chickpea market remains subdued, but the potential for price declines is limited. In Canada, buyers are holding back on the new crop, while farmers are looking for replacements for poor-quality seeds.

Slight price correction amid weak demand

Prices for chickpeas have recently fallen slightly on the Indian domestic market. This is due to subdued demand in both local trade and the export business. Despite sufficient stock levels, purchasing activity remained limited, leading to moderate price pressure. Kabuli chickpeas in particular recorded a decline.
