NEW DELHI/OTTAWA. The conflicts in the Middle East continue to affect Indian chickpea exports, and suppliers are increasingly concerned. In Canada, massive carry-over stocks are preventing sharper price rises.

Instability dampens trade

Indian exports of Kabuli chickpeas to the Gulf region are currently under considerable pressure, as escalating conflicts are disrupting key trade routes and affecting demand. Key markets such as Iran, the United Arab Emirates and Turkey are affected by instability, which is hampering both logistics and purchasing behaviour at a crucial stage of the export season.
