NEW DELHI/OTTAWA. September 2025 was characterised by volatile and low prices as well as low demand on the Indian chickpea market. Suppliers hope that this will change due to festive season purchases. In Canada, production volumes remain unclear.

Prices continue to decline

The Indian chickpea market remains under pressure as demand is still sluggish. Prices are therefore at the lower end of the price range and are volatile. In Maharashtra, many traders have released their stocks for sale, while buyers remain largely inactive. Stocks are also high in Karnataka, but arrivals remain moderate. Only the prospect that no new harvest is expected for the time being and that high international prices make imports unattractive seem to be providing some stability at present.
