Chickpeas: Indian traders hold back goods

NEW DELHI/OTTAWA. In order to prevent major price reductions in the chickpea market, Indian suppliers have restricted their sales. In Canada, the size of the chickpeas plays a decisive role.

Exports are declining

After the Indian chickpea market has been repeatedly affected by price falls in recent weeks, traders have now started to restrict sales in order to drive up prices. India's total production of chickpeas this year is around 3.1 million mt, but the good buying mood of exporters has prevented prices from declining too drastically. However, as international prices have fallen in the last two weeks, Indian suppliers are currently endeavouring to stabilise their prices.
