Chickpeas: large global production in 2023

NEW DELHI/OTTAWA. According to current estimates, the crop volume in India could be 600,000 mt higher than last year. Larger acreages are also reported from Canada and other major producing countries.

Up to 2 million mt of chickpeas in India

After prices on the Indian chickpea market had risen noticeably last week, there have now been significant declines. Sowing has increased in all growing regions and more goods are arriving in the markets, although it should be noted that there is little produce available overall and buyers are eagerly awaiting the new crop, which should arrive in an estimated 20-25 days. Since there are hardly any goods on the market until then, experts reckon that prices will soon start to rise again.
