NEW DELHI. High stocks and the prospect of a large new crop are depressing prices on the Indian chickpea market – this is also reflected in the mood of suppliers. International competition is fierce.

Further price declines

As demand is not picking up, the Indian chickpea market remains under considerable pressure. Large quantities of old stocks remain unsold and the prospect of a high-yielding new crop is adding to the poor sentiment. Prices are continuing their downward trend and have fallen again by USD 10/mt compared to last week. Traders are trying to get their goods to buyers as quickly as possible, but are currently only moderately successful in doing so.
