NEW DELHI/OTTAWA. High stocks from the old crop and average production levels are leading to high supply and falling prices in India. However, this could soon change – suppliers are optimistic ahead of the new crop.

Market players remain optimistic

The Indian chickpea market has been stagnating since July. Sufficient old stocks and a normal production have put pressure on prices for months and recently led to a noticeable correction. However, market players perceive this development as a temporary low point. Market sentiment is gradually turning as prices could rise significantly in the coming months; this is not yet reflected in export prices, which have fallen by 10 USD/mt.
