Chickpeas: prices largely stable

NEW DELHI/OTTAWA. Indian chickpea prices are being supported by the international market. In Canada, prices also remain stable. Much of the available supplies is of lower quality.

Short-term price decline

In the Indian chickpea market, prices have eased slightly this week, falling from USD 0.69–0.76/kg to USD 0.67–0.70/kg. However, market players do not expect a prolonged downward trend. Whilst the summer heat and limited liquidity among market players are exerting additional pressure, the market is being supported by the smaller crop and comparatively high prices on the international market.
