NEW DELHI/OTTAWA. The prices of Indian chickpeas have undergone a sharp fluctuation in the past few days. There have also been significant changes in Canada.

Favourable prices drive up demand

The Indian chickpea market has seen a remarkable fluctuation recently. An increase in cultivation and high arrivals on the markets last week led to a price drop of USD 0.19 to 0.20/kg; however, lower prices have boosted demand, which in turn has led to a price increase of USD 0.07 to 0.08/kg, with a further increase of a similar amount expected. The Kabuli variety in particular is in demand. Unfavourable weather conditions have led to a decline in deliveries, which is also supporting prices.
