NEW DELHI/OTTAWA. Although demand for Indian chickpeas remains sluggish, prices have risen slightly, mainly due to low stocks. In Canada, the harvest is slowly coming to an end.

Market in a holding pattern

Prices for Indian chickpeas have risen slightly compared to last week, as tight supply offsets sluggish demand from processors and wholesale markets. Traders are largely holding back on selling large quantities, pointing out that no new crops are expected in the near future and that higher world market prices make imports unprofitable. The market therefore remains in a holding pattern and trading activity is limited.
