NEW DELHI/OTTAWA. Prices for Indian chickpeas have fallen due to low demand, but this could soon change as stocks dwindle. In Canada, crop estimates show significant discrepancies.

Demand leaves much to be desired

The market for Kabuli chickpeas is currently facing a discrepancy between expectations and actual availability. Traders in Karnataka report that supplies are lower than expected, and the mandis in Maharashtra have almost completely depleted their stocks. Madhya Pradesh has also received only limited arrivals this season. Prices are currently under pressure, mainly due to sluggish demand, and have fallen slightly compared to last week. However, traders believe that further sharp price declines are unlikely.
