SOFIA. On the background of recently rising prices, shipped volumes abroad remain strong.

BULGARIA. During the recent few days, showers have been so strong in regions that some places got unexpectedly flooded. The western regions are expected to receive more rains throughout the first half of the month while in the general east, showers will be of a higher magnitude but more sporadic and thus expected not to cover all fields. Further, the higher forecasted temperatures for the month and lower humidity in places predispose the weather to hailstorms. Ice balls from the sky have already covered the ground in white, and although having a local impact, they devastated all they hit.

Corn: The export trend keeps its momentum strong

Foreign demand prospects for local corn have been quite encouraging. Since the beginning of the current marketing season, with the exception of a few quiet weeks, exports have been strong. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, by the 1st of June 2018, total exports reached 1,238,088 mt, which on a yearly basis represents an increase of close to 40%. The higher export figure is the result of vibrant exports not only to EU markets, but also to non-EU ones. The high quality of the grain this year, on the background of rising prices, has led to shipped volumes to markets of the Union to 983,270 mt, which stand by 39.17% higher from those of last year by this time.

Although exports to third world countries of other locally grown grains during the current marketing year suffered considerably because of regional rivalry, shipped volumes of locally grown corn to non-EU markets so far amounted to 254,818 mt or by 42.67% higher on an annual basis. Both trends are expected to keep the momentum high.
