MADISON/QUÉBEC. May and June brought abundant rainfall and little sunshine to cranberry-growing regions. Nevertheless, yield prospects are moderate. EU countries have increased their imports by 11.5% this year.

The last few months have been wet

Despite unfavourable weather conditions in May and June, the cranberry crop is progressing well. According to experts at Chelmer Foods, the past two months have been characterised by few hours of sunshine and persistent heavy rainfall. Fields with drainage systems therefore have a better chance of good yields. In some growing regions, there has been increased growth of field horsetail, which farmers have had to combat by hand.

At present, yield prospects are average, and according to data published by the INC in May, both the USA and Canada are expected to achieve similar results to last year, with 143,900 mt and 49,700 mt respectively, provided the weather remains favourable. Global production of dried cranberries is expected to reach a total of 205,200 mt in the 2025/2026 season, which would represent an increase of 1.3% over the previous season.

EU imports rose by a good 11%

EU cranberry imports increased significantly in the first half of 2025. Between 1 January and 6 July 2025, a total of 22,862 mt of dried cranberries worth EUR 83.090 million were imported into the EU. This represents an 11.5% increase in import volume and a 12.0% increase in import value compared to the same period last year.

At EUR 3.63/kg, the average import price during this period was similar to the previous year (EUR 3.62/kg). Shipments from the USA increased by 6.8% to 11,366 mt during this period, and imports from Canada also rose by 22.8% to 9,770 mt.

At the same time, imports from Chile fell by 8.4% to 1,647 mt. The main importers in the EU are the Netherlands (+11.9% to 15,190 mt), Germany (+40.8% to 2,070 mt) and Poland (+7.3% to 1,470 mt).
