Dates: access to Russia is not so easy

BANDAR BUSHEHR. Annual date production ranges at 126,000 mt in Iran’s Bushehr Province. Although harvesting is well underway, the famers are concerned over sales. Russia is a particularly attractive destination for dates and suppliers are intent on ramping up sales here, which is not so easy.

Russia is highly attractive

The farmers mainly grow Zahedi and Kabkab dates in Bushehr, for which Dashtestan County is a production hotspot. Harvesting continues until early November. Although prospects are somewhat encouraging as harvesting has reportedly improved on last year despite drought and pests causing some damage, the farmers are concerned over sales. Rising costs, cutbacks in consumer demand and political tensions may indeed impact exports.
