Dates: demand situation has changed

TEHRAN. Exports performed well in the first quarter of the Iranian year, which started on 21 March. International demand for Mazafati dates was especially high. Things have, however, changed now.

Exports are up

Iran exported 55,181 mt of dates for USD 47.707 million between 21 March and 20 June. This is 3.6% up on the 51,900 mt shipped overseas in the same period last year and 8.3% up on the USD 45.955 million generated last year. The rise in exports is attributed to high inventories and the excellent quality of the fruits, which drove up average export prices by around 7.4%.
