TEHRAN. Although drought has considerably impacted production in some regions in Iran, traders nevertheless remain optimistic. The market is also reckoning with an improved performance in the export market.

Rise in production to give exports a boost

Although drought and drought-like conditions have reduced production by as much as 60% in some regions, total production is still expected to rise by 20% to 1,2 million metric tonnes. This increase in production coupled with government intervention and more competitive prices should boost exports. Exports from Iran have largely stagnated over the last twelve months but are expected to pick up this year and reach USD 400 million.
