FRANKFURT/BRUSSELS. Global production is set to rise by 7.6% in 2019/2020. While imports to Germany were unchanged last year, imports to the EU increased by 11.6% last year.

Production to decline by 30% in Iran

According to Chelmer Foods, heavy rains had an adverse impact on the trees. Schadegan and Abadan, th emain growing areas in the province of Chuzestan in the southwest of Iran, are particularly affected. Crop damages are estimates at 50-70%. Since other regions were not affected and production should be able average. In addition, many palm trees are said to have shaken off small fruits over the last two months, which is why mainly large dates remain on the trees. Production is expected to be 30% smaller than last year.
