Dried apricots: cautious optimism

MALATYA. Turkish dried apricot exports are well below last year's levels, but market players are hopeful that the tense situation will improve this year. Snowfall has largely paralysed trade.

Trade severely affected

Persistent cold weather and snowfall are currently dominating the situation in the Turkish apricot-growing province of Malatya. According to the Turkish Meteorological Service, temperatures will remain at winter levels: night-time temperatures are expected to reach -12°C, while daytime highs will reach a maximum of 3°C. Public and economic life is severely restricted by the masses of snow, and even farmers with remaining produce are hardly reaching the markets.
