Dried apricots: first crop estimates

MALATYA. The first production estimates for the new season have been announced in Malatya, but not all market players agree. The quantity and quality of the crop are up for debate.

Contradictory views

At a joint press conference by Malatya Governor Hulusi Şahin, Malatya Commodity Exchange Chairman Ramazan Özcan and the province's Director of Agriculture and Forestry Tahir Macit, the first official estimates of this year's apricot crop were announced. These state that the average yield per tree is 40.4 kg of fresh apricots, which would result in an estimated total crop of 385,850 mt. Dried apricot production is said to be 77,170 mt, which would represent a 10% increase over last year.
