MALATYA. According to market players, the new crop will be on the market at the end of the month. Some exporters have already announced first price indications, but these do not seem realistic.

New crop exceeds expectations

Deliveries of the new crop are possible at the end of August at the earliest, as the drying process takes some time to avoid problems with a high moisture content. Buyers must be vigilant about earlier dates, as traders still want to sell leftovers from the old crop, for which they also offer very attractive prices. The market players assure once again that the new crop exceeds expectations in terms of quality, taste and colour and the apricots have significantly more flesh than in the previous season. Back then, apricots that were intended to be No. 2 were ultimately sold as No. 4 because they were too small. This year, the apricots are expected to even exceed the hoped-for size, which could also lead to a further increase in the crop volume.

Exports of fresh apricots satisfactory

Last week Turkey exported 705 metric tonnes of dried apricots and apricot products, compared to 995 metric tonnes in the same week last year. Total exports since the beginning of the season amount to 93,830 metric tonnes, compared to 96,919 metric tonnes in the same period last season. According to traders, the export of fresh apricots is very satisfactory. The fresh fruits are mainly exported to nearby countries, as overseas shipments are risky and can be at the expense of quality.
