MALATYA. Temperature below zero are expected in Malatya this week. Experts estimate that 30% of the trees are flowering. Night frosts would be fatal.

Temperatures to drop below 0°C

Luckily, current estimated state that only 30% of the apricot trees are flowering as the period started late. There are no reports of crop damage yet, but a few cold nights are still ahead. While some traders have responded by withdrawing their offers from the market, others have raised their prices as a precautionary measure.

Production estimates are stable

The production estimates recently issued by the International Nut and Dried Fruit Council (INC) have remained unchanged. However, it should be noted that the figures have not changed since the last report issued in November 2018. The INC estimates total dried apricot production for 2018/19 at 186,800 mt, 17.6% down on last season.
