Dried apricots: Drying phase is crucial

MALATYA. Market players are expecting an oversupply of unsulphured dried apricots. To conceal signs of hail damage on the fruit, farmers will increasingly refrain from sulphurising the product during the dried fruit production phase.

 

Worries over rain
Until recently, estimates for the Turkish dried apricot production in 2018 were still at 140,000-150,000 mt. Official sources have now, however, forecast a production result of less than 90,000 mt. The carry-over from the current season is projected at 10,000-20,000 mt and is supposed to consist mainly of small fruits of lower quality. Should the export volume range at a similar level to that of this season (currently estimated at 95,000-100,000 mt), a supply squeeze is likely at some point over the course of the season.
