MALATYA. High temperatures and plenty of sunshine provide optimal conditions for drying the newly harvested apricots. Nevertheless, more and more quality defects are becoming visible, caused by frost and hail damage.

Few small fruits

Turkish growers expect that the harvest in the valley plains could be finished next week. As it starts a few weeks later in the higher altitudes, the end of the harvest will be later accordingly. The high temperatures of at least 35°C and the corresponding sunshine provide optimal conditions for the drying period and the farmers are very satisfied. Nevertheless, the crop is increasingly showing defects due to hail and frost damage to the fruit, and it will be difficult to find sufficiently spotless goods.

Commodity prices have increased
