Dried apricots: EU increases imports from Uzbekistan by almost 130%

MALATYA/BRUSSELS. Due to crop failures in Turkey, buyers in the EU are looking for other sources of supply – Uzbekistan and China are taking advantage of this opportunity. Turkish exports have declined significantly and there is hardly any trade taking place.

Turkish exports down by 24%

As there is hardly any produce available this year due to the frost-related crop failure, Turkish dried apricot exports have fallen dramatically. Last week, only 605 mt of dried apricots and apricot products were shipped overseas, compared to 1,563 mt in the same week last year. Since the start of the season, total exports have amounted to 9,080 mt, compared to 25,890 mt in the same period last year.
