Dried apricots: exports hit absolute record despite earthquakes

MALATYA. Harvesting and drying are well underway and the first prices for the new dried apricot crop are circulating. Exports have hit an absolute record in Malatya and the target for 2023/2024 is even more ambitious.

Optimistic exporters

As the Malatya Commodity Exchange states dried apricot exports reached a record despite the earthquakes at the start of the year. Dried apricot exports, in fact, exceeded 80,000 mt worth USD 435 million and the total income for fresh and dried apricots as well as kernels combined exceeded USD 500 million. Although the earthquakes wreaked havoc in Malatya in February, the export value ranged USD 60 million higher than last year. Domestic dried apricot sales, in addition, comprised 10,000 mt.
