Dried apricots: Higher farmgate prices expected in 2018

MALATYA. Market participants are expecting an increase in demand for this year’s Ramadan, starting February. Therefore, apricot prices cannot be expected to drop over the coming weeks.

 

Subsidies to help farmers

Farmgate prices rose to 9–10 TRY/kg this week, with continuing upward tendency. Exporters are basing their offers on whether they still have goods in stock, or need to purchase additional volumes on the free market.

During the harvest period, dried apricots were offered at very low prices of 4 TRY/kg, to allow farmers to pay their employees with the first sales of the season. State subsidies are, however, expected to make farmer’s lives easier this year. These will allow them to pay their employees without
