MALATYA. While there are enough small dried apricot varieties like no 4 and no 5 available this season, the situation is quite different for the large varieties that are particularly popular with European buyers. This difference is also noticeable in the prices.

Growers use situation to their advantage

After the new apricot season started with very high prices, at least the farmgate prices for small varieties have now declined. Market players report that more dried apricots from no 4 onwards are available this season, while the crop volume for no 1-3 is significantly lower; these varieties are particularly popular with European buyers. Here, commodity prices remain at an expensive TRY 150-200/kg, while no 3 and no 4 sell for TRY 90-100/kg. Sundried organic apricots are around TRY 120/kg.
