Dried apricots: Producers play it safe

MALATYA. Although the year is not over yet, the dried fruit producers in Turkey are already weighing up the possible consequences of a small apricot crop in 2019. They are taking precautions.

 

Large dried fruits gain in price again

The Turkish lira continues to strengthen. Yet, the major traders and exporters have to raise their prices, although they have stocked up well. With the firmer exchange rate, the calculated profit margins have shrunk noticeably. Much to the regret of the suppliers.

Only a few large farmers still have dried apricots in stock, the rest are already being traded in the free market. The farmers can afford to store the apricots until spring. If the production prospects for 2019 are below average, they should be
