MALATYA. The high prices in the food market are causing dismay in Turkey. They have risen by as much as 30-50% over last year. Consumer confidence in the retail market is declining, while the government tis trying to regain control with high fines. The export prices for dried apricots have risen again since prices lost ground in August.

Recovery in prices

The prices for dried apricots, no 4 have recovered to last year’s level in trading for 2,650 USD/mt FOB Mersin. In addition, the prices for dried apricots no 2 and no. 8 have risen since last week. Dried apricots, no 8, however, form a noted exception as they remain firm.

Due to the SIAL in Paris the market is very quiet. Farmgate prices have risen nominally. The fruits have small stains, which may not appeal to the eye, but apart from this there are no complaints in the market.
