MALATYA. Weather conditions in the apricot-growing regions continue to cause headaches for Turkish growers. Trade has largely come to a standstill this week due to the Festival of Sacrifice. Exports remain weak.

Weather conditions and their impact

Heavy rainfall and hailstorms hit the rural areas of Akçadağ, Darende and Hekimhan in Malatya last week. The hail caused considerable damage to fruit and trees in apricot orchards at an early stage of development. According to the governor’s office, production in 13 districts across four counties has been affected, with initial estimates suggesting damage of up to 20% in some regions.
