BEIJING. Arrivals from Myanmar are putting increasing pressure on the Chinese mung bean market. Prices for black and red kidney beans have risen, while demand for adzuki beans is increasing.

High prices dampen demand for black kidney beans

Deliveries of black kidney beans are currently slow and traders are only buying on demand and not in stock. Suppliers are refusing to sell their goods at more favourable prices, and the low stocks in the growing regions are managing to support prices and even push them up slightly. Problem is that both Chinese and foreign buyers are not willing to pay the high prices, which is why there is currently virtually no demand.
