AYDIN. Efforts to gain control over the black fig fly have paid off in Aydin. The weather is warm and the trees are doing well. Harvesting may start earlier for figs this year.

Successful measures

Efforts have paid off as the black fig fly has finally been brought under control with timely and rapid pesticide usage and interventions by institutions, farmers and exporters. Warm weather conditions prevail with daytime temperatures ranging at 36-40C (97-104F) and nighttime temperatures at 21-23C (70-73F). Harvesting will almost certainly start ten to fifteen days earlier this year. Hope is that the weather will remain good while the harvest is underway and the fruits are being dried.
