Dried figs: competing for buyers in Europe

AYDIN/ESTAHBAN. For Turkey the EU is the primary export market for dried fruits. Climate change is, however, quite a challenge for agricultural products. Iran also intends to direct its dried fig exports towards Europe.

Unattractive prices

Harvesting has been completed in Turkey, but supplies in export quality are nearly exhausted and the prices for dried figs in good quality are still on the rise. Exports are doing rather well given that buyers have turned away with free market prices ranging as high as TRY 170-200/kg, but more reliable figures will only emerge in around two months as exporters are currently processing orders made early in the season.
