Dried figs: coronavirus to dampen exports

TEHRAN. Iran's dried fig exports normally surge in months leading up to the start of the new year on 21 March. Matters are, however, much different this year. One problem is that many buyers are based in the Far East.

Concerns over impact of virus

In February last year, the dried fig export volume more than doubled to around 492 metric tonnes over January. The export value even surged by 252% to USD 1.993 million. Exports event climbed to 1,287 metric tonnes worth USD 4.577 million in March 2019. Market players state that although a sharp increase in exports is also to be expected this year, shipments will most certainly range lower than last year.
