AYDIN. As dry conditions prevail in Aydin, concerns are being raised over the possible impact on the quality of this year's dried figs. Aflatoxin is still a problem.

Quality at stake

Weather forecasts predict a sunny spell with temperatures ranging at 16-21C (61-70F) towards the end of the week, whereas wind and cold nights are currently being witnessed. While these conditions do not pose a risk for the trees, the lack of rain is the more important problem. Drought may once again become a problem next season. Although it is way too early for predictions, the lack of rain may result in quality problems.
