AYDIN. The fig trees in Aydin are waking up unusually early from their winter dormancy. However, the low rainfall does not provide the best conditions for a bountiful harvest.

Warmth causes trees to sprout

In Aydin, the main growing region for Turkish dried figs, it is currently comparatively warm. Temperatures of around 28-32°C are expected this week and the fig trees are already forming their first leaves - this usually only happens around 20 April. If the temperatures stay like this, this could also mean that the pollination phase, which usually begins in June, will start earlier.
