Dried figs: export prices continue to fall

AYDIN/TEHRAN. In Turkey, the TMO has so far purchased more than 1,000 metric tonnes of dried figs since mid-October. Meanwhile, the exporters in Turkey are complaining of abnormal price declines. The export market in Iran is also feeling the pressure.

Abnormal decline in prices recorded in Turkey

Although the farmers are happy with the TMO intervention as the farmgate prices have stabilised at around TRY 14.00 per kg in the free market, the exporters are struggling to sell at high prices. In addition, much more volatile prices are reported in the commodity exchanges, where prices range between TRY 10 and TRY 23 per kg. Export prices have now retreated for the second consecutive week.
