AYDIN. The chairman of the Aegean Dried Fruit and Products Exporters Association is confident that Turkey will export dried figs worth USD 250 million by the end of December. High prices are boosting sales despite lower shipments.

New year, new prices?

Due to the upcoming Christmas holidays, there are virtually no requests for prompt shipments in the Turkish dried fig market. Commodity prices on the stock exchange are between TRY 170-200/kg, depending on quality, which is far from the reality of what exporters are willing to pay as they cannot be sure to find sufficient buyers. Nevertheless, market players are not ruling out further price increases, as there is hardly any product left on the market and none available from growers. Prices are expected to be adjusted after the turn of the year
