Dried figs: Exports to drop by 33%

AYDIN. The exporters in Turkey no longer have much hope for the dried fig market. It is, however, questionable in how far their pessimistic export estimates are realistic.

Outlook is less pessimistic

Turkey has exported nearly 31,000 mt of dried figs since the start of the season around 4,300 mt or 12.3% less than last year. In 2017/18 a total of 60,000 mt of dried figs were exported. Due to the poor quality of the figs market players reckon that this figure will drop to 40,000-50,000 mt this season.

An estimated 80,000 mt of dried figs were produced in 2018. Even if a large part of the production does not meet the EU quality standards, a 33% drop in the export volume would be a drastic development. Other importing countries w
