Turkish dried fig exporters are outraged. It is one thing that their shipments are subject to increased controls at the European border and are relatively often refused entry due to elevated aflatoxin and ochratoxin levels. What is unacceptable, however, is that some countries destroy the goods instead of returning them. This results in considerable financial losses for the exporters concerned, as they are denied the opportunity to find alternative uses for their dried fruit.
