AYDIN. Extreme heat has promtped farmers to start harvesting figs earlier in Turkey this year. Yields will be lower than last year, but the quality better.

Finance is a problem

With daytime termperatures remaining at a stubbornly high 40-42C (104-108F) and nighttime temperatures offering little respit at 24C (75F) and higher the fig harvest, which normally starts later, has been brought forward. While producers work feverishly in the fields to collect figs, various precautions are being taken to ensure that harvesting progresses smoothly.
