Dried figs: Market falters

AYDIN. The prices for large dried figs are continuing to rise. Ramadan and the subsequent elections have slowed down trade.

 

Erratic weather is a risk factor

As they were virtually nowhere to be seen on the market, prices for Turkish dried figs have sharply been raised by traders once again. Lerida, No. 2 are hitting an 8-week high, while No. 4 also went up. Smaller figs (No. 5 and below) are being offered at prices similar to last week.

Production estimates for Turkish dried figs in 2018/19 remain at 72,00 mt, but the unusually volatile weather in Turkey can still have a negative impact on quality even after the drying phase has started.
