Dried figs: pollination delayed

AYDIN. Fig pollination is finally underway in Aydin in Turkey. Although the weather is still cloudy, hope is that the current high temperatures will speed up developments.

Still cloudy

Far from ideal weather conditions have delayed pollination in Aydin's fig orchards by around one to two weeks. Alhough it is still cloudy and local rains are being reported, daytime temperatures are expected to climb to 31-37C (87.8-98.6F), which should boost yields. At the end of June it will become evident how successful the first round of pollination was, growers will conduct a second round if required. Fruitsets differ locally and tend to develop later in higher altitudes.
