Dried figs: prices start to move

AYDIN. Temperatures are finally dropping in Aydin, which is good for the fig trees. Limited supplies and rising demand are, however, driving up export prices.

Prices USD 300/mt up

Good news is that as nighttime temperatures have already dropped to 2-5C (35.6-41F) and are expected to continue to do so frost and snow should arrive in Aydin, Turkey's main producing region for figs, very soon. Bad news, however, is that many suppliers are sold out and most exporters can now only rely on the stocks they have in store. At present it is impossible for them to obtain additional supplies.

Prices have now risen in line with expectations for the turn of the year. No 2 Lerida dried figs are trading USD 300/mt higher at USD 6,
