Dried figs: Quality issues cause concern

AYDIN. Exporters are highly concerned over the quality of their dried figs as the high moisture content increases the risk of mould and maggot infestation. All supplies of high-quality figs have already been shipped bevor Christmas. Not even the regular customers can be served any longer.

At 27,368 mt the export volume continues below last year’s level of 31,061 mt. High-quality figs have already been shipped bevor Christmas with not even regular customers been served now. Quality is becoming more of an issue as the rain during the drying process has not only torn many figs apart, but the high moisture content of the fruits is posing additional risks of maggot infestation and mould.
